The Process

At Studio City Smiles, our dental team will carefully conduct a comprehensive exam of your Head , Neck and Oral Cavity to detect any early signs of issues. Then our experienced hygienists provide a gentle yet thorough cleaning to remove plaque and tartar, helping prevent gum disease and cavities. Following the cleaning, we’ll work closely with you to develop a preventive care plan that’s customized to your oral health needs and goals, ensuring your smile remains healthy and vibrant.

How often should I schedule dental exam and cleaning?

While routine dental exams and cleanings are typically recommended every six months, the ideal frequency can vary based on your specific oral health needs and risk factors. At Studio City Smiles, our team will assess your dental condition and collaborate with you to establish a personalized care schedule that best supports your long-term oral health.

What should I expect during a dental exam?

At Studio City Smiles, our dental exams are designed to provide a thorough evaluation of your teeth, gums, and jaw for any potential issues. This includes screening for cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer. To ensure precise diagnostics, we may take digital x-rays to better assess your teeth and jaw. Based on our findings, we will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan to address any concerns and maintain your oral health for the long term.

Are Dental X-Rays Safe and how often do I need to take them?

At Studio City Smiles, we prioritize your safety by utilizing lead aprons, advanced digital imaging, and beam size selection to minimize radiation exposure during x-rays. The frequency of x-rays is determined by your oral health, age, and other risk factors such as your susceptibility to cavities or a history of dental issues. Patients at higher risk may require more frequent imaging. Pour Dentists will carefully assess the appropriate intervals for x-rays to ensure accurate diagnosis while keeping radiation exposure to a minimum.

Sealants

Studio City Smiles is pleased to offer sealants for our patients.

When we apply a dental sealant, we paint a plastic coating on top of your teeth. This makes your teeth smooth, getting rid of the rough edges, depressions, and grooves that are commonly found on teeth. It is essentially a protective coating against tooth decay and cavities.

The most common place to paint sealants is on back teeth since they are often irregular. They can also be very hard to reach, even if you brush your teeth regularly. We use it more on children though we do perform sealants on adults too!

Don’t hesitate to contact us today at (818) 860-2205 if you have any questions about sealants.

Fluoride Treatment

MI Paste is a professional dental product containing casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP), which helps to remineralize and protect tooth enamel. It is commonly used to prevent tooth sensitivity, reduce white spot lesions, and enhance oral health by replenishing lost minerals in the enamel. MI Paste can be applied topically to teeth and is often recommended by dental professionals for patients with a variety of dental concerns.

Oral cancer screenings including smoking cessation

Nobody wants to hear that they may have oral cancer. Although it can be fatal, it is easier to treat the earlier it is caught. For this reason, we are proud to assist our patients with an oral cancer screening. We want to help our patients survive this often fatal disease.

Oral cancer will typically show up as white or red patches or lesions inside of your mouth. You may even notice the lesions on your tongue or on the floor of your mouth. Many people experience a hard time swallowing, bleeding in the mouth, or even swelling in your face or neck.

Since this specific cancer can look like a burn inside of your mouth, dentists will typically wait to see if it goes away. If not, we will perform a biopsy so that we can receive a proper diagnosis. In order to perform an oral cancer screening, we may use sedation or general anesthesia. This allows us to remove a sample of the lesion so that the pathologist is able to look at it under a microscope and come up with a diagnosis.

We understand that this can be a scary and stressful time. However, we promise to be there for you every step of the way. If you ever need anyone to talk to, we are here for you. If you simply have questions, we will be happy to answer them.

If your results come back positive, the best option will be surgery, if we are able to localize and remove the lesion. If not, we may recommend a combination of radiation and chemotherapy.

If you have any questions about oral cancer screening or would like to schedule an appointment, contact us today at (818) 860-2205.

Oral Hygiene Education and Nutritional Counseling

At Studio City Smiles, we make sure each patient has all the information they need to maintain exceptional oral hygiene and a beautiful, natural smile throughout their lifetime. It bears repeating that there are three main components to practicing good dental health.

Brushing your teeth

Unless otherwise instructed by your dentist, use a toothbrush labeled ‘soft.’ Medium-bristled toothbrushes can be too tough on the gums and enamel for many patients. Even though many people believe that medium-bristled brushes provide a more thorough cleaning, it actually weakens their enamel and does more harm than good.

We recommend brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes at a time. For optimal cleanliness, lightly hold the brush and gently brush your teeth rather than applying unnecessary pressure and ‘scrubbing’ your teeth with the brush. Be sure to replace your toothbrush every three to four months, especially if you have been sick to make sure it is as fresh and clean as possible.

Flossing your teeth and gums

Flossing is an essential part of maintaining good oral hygiene as it is the best way to remove any debris or leftover food caught between your teeth or in your gums. We recommend flossing at least once a day, though we admit, twice a day is best to clean all sides of your teeth, especially in those hard to reach places like the back of your mouth.

Flossing helps to remove plaque that your toothbrush may have missed which is why it is never too late to start flossing, even if you have not flossed in quite some time. Don’t be afraid to wind some floss around those fingers and get your gums clean. It is completely normal for you to see a bit of blood once you clean under your gums for the first time in a while. Don’t panic. As your gums get used to the thorough cleaning that flossing provides, they will stop bleeding.

Using a mouthwash

While it is not a replacement for brushing and flossing your teeth altogether, using a mouthwash can help to cut down on the bacteria that may be hiding in hard to reach places in your mouth. Mouthwash freshens your breath and cleans your tongue, but remember to check with your dentist before adding any mouthwash to your routine, especially if it includes fluoride or peroxide.

At Studio City Smiles, we are dedicated to providing best-in-class education and dental services to ensure your oral hygiene is the best it can be.

Mouth Guards and Sleeping Apnea Device

Here at Studio City Smiles, we are proud to offer sports mouth guards to our patients. As dentists, we are determined to make sure your mouth and teeth are well protected during sports activities, no matter what your passion is. To do this, we offer many different types of mouthguards, depending on the types of activities in which you are involved. There are some mouth guards for low-impact sports and others for high-impact sports.

Mouth guards not only protect your mouth and teeth, but also have other purposes. Mouth guards will help decrease the impact if you get hit in the jaw. They have also been shown to increase an athlete’s performance.

Many people clench their teeth while playing, which can give them temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ). Clenching your jaw the whole time can be quite exhausting. Mouth guards help to relax your jaw, allowing you to completely focus on the game!

Feel free to contact us at (818) 860-2205 if you have any questions about sports mouth guards.
